Qualifications
In addition to the basic qualifications listed in Section A of this document, the President should be a spiritually matured person, with exemplary Christian conduct and exceptional leadership skills required to work as a governing official of the CGC.
Knowledge of the Biblical principles of servant-leadership and constitutional procedures is a must for the position.
The position is on the basis of voluntary service without any remuneration.
Selection & Termination Procedure
The governing official (President) will be nominated by the congregation at the Annual General Meeting and will be selected by majority vote of the members and will serve for a consecutive term of three years to be reaffirmed annually with a one year break after two terms.
The chosen governing official shall be relieved of jurisdictional authority under the following circumstances:
- The relationship is terminated by either his/her resignation. Should the governing official terminate the relationship a minimum 30-day notice should be given.
- Dismissal by voting of the majority of the members of the General Body held in January each year or a special General Body Meeting called at any time, if the governing official fails to perform his/her duties efficiently or his/her conduct causes harm to the interests of the church.
- After the end of appointed term of three years or extended term.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Act as a governing official of the CGC in all the matters related with the government authorities.
- Direct the Secretary to prepare the agenda of the committee meetings in consultation with the Pastor.
- Preside all the committee meetings including Pastoral Search committee.
- Preside and lead the business in the AGM of the CGC.
- Oversee the work and performance of the Pastor in consultation with the Secretary and the committee.
- Take leadership role in conflict management (within the committee and the congregation) and work for reconciliation.
- Work with the Pastor in leading the congregation to a spiritual maturity by planning various activities.
- Shall be an ex-officio member of all committees/ subcommittee and shall keep informed on the activities of all Church activities.
- In the absence of Pastor, preach the Word of God or arrange for a guest speaker in consultation with the Pastor.
Reporting Structure
As per the CGC constitution, the President is responsible and accountable to the general body of the CGC.
However, it is recommended to develop some accountability to the Pastor and the committee members.
